Heavy metals in cosmetics: new analytical method according to ISO 21392:2021
Mérieux NutriSciences is glad to announce that our CosmeticLAB has validated and implemented the method “Measurement of traces of heavy metals in cosmetic finished products using ICP/MS technique”, according to the new standard ISO 21392:2021.
Heavy metals contamination in cosmetic products is a serious threat as products repeatedly applied directly to the human skin, mucous membranes, hair and nails should be safe for health according to the Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to avoid the contaminants presence – even toxic metals -, so it is important to perform high-sensitive analyses able to detect its presence in cosmetic products and ingredients.
The new feature introduced with ISO 21392:2021 is the harmonization of the method for the determination of metals such as chromium, cobalt, nickel, arsenic, cadmium, antimony and lead, which allows obtaining standardized results among all actors involved.
Mérieux NutriSciences has successfully validated the method for the most common heavy metals and cosmetics products.
