All our Tests and Services
Products marketed to consumers must be proven to be safe; no compromises are allowed when there could be a risk to consumer health.
From food contact materials (FCM) to textiles, from detergents to air fresheners, any chemicals used as ingredients in products must be controlled in order to protect human health and avoid any harmful impact on the environment.
Product performance can positively or negatively affect customer satisfaction; products must be fit for use, claims used in advertising must correspond to product characteristics, and a market leader must deliver a high level of performance to avoid disappointing consumers.
Performance evaluation is one of the Mérieux NutriSciences laboratories’ main strengths. Years of experience and our sophisticated range of instruments, some of which have been purpose-designed, enable us to support our customers in extensive and exhaustive performance evaluation tests for a wide range of products, including plastics, detergents, absorbing aids, accelerated aging, and exposure to lightand weathering.
Quality control is indispensable to monitor whether a product or service meets specified requirements. A quality assurance system is intended to increase customer confidence and a company's credibility, to improve work processes and efficiency, and to enable a company to better compete with its rivals. As quality constitutes one of Mérieux NutriSciences’ founding values, we are well placed to support the industrial and distribution sectors in evaluating the quality of their products. We offer a comprehensive approach that covers chemistry, microbiology, physical properties and performance, so as to accurately determine product properties and the suitability of technical specifications of goods, and for claim substantiation purposes.
Our test plans can be adapted to suit the type of product and its intended use. Our experienced R&D department works with manufacturers and retailers to develop and validate analytical methods specifically for your needs.
Most products, including detergents, waste and shopping bags made of compostable and biodegradable film, textiles, plastic materials, inks, paints and varnishes, can undergo chemical and physical changes during storage and use. The rate at which these changes occur depends on the nature of the active constituents, the type of formulation, the packaging and, of course, the storage/use conditions (temperature, light and humidity). The product remains fit for use as long as these changes have no adverse effects on application and/or consumer safety. Stability data should be generated with the product stored in the proposed commercial packaging, under accelerated conditions and/or via long-term testing at room temperature or in ambient warehouse conditions.
Mérieux NutriSciences provides a wide range of aging conditions, including climatic and xenon chambers for artificial exposure to light and weathering, and appropriate methods to test performance changes for an extensive range of goods.
Research and development plays a key role in the industrial innovation process, which may consist of creating innovative products, replacing an existing product, or restyling an old product (e.g. packaging it in a different way). In all cases, the performance, safety and durability of the product must be evaluated in order to ensure the success of the project.
Mérieux NutriSciences deals not just with standard requirements, but also offers its customers the services of an R&D team dedicated to their needs, helping to define and conduct R&D projects thanks to:
- High-level technologies;
- Integrated services, including the evaluation of all aspects of the product (chemical, microbiological, sensory, physico-mechanical, claim substantiation, labeling, etc.);
- Highly qualified staff.
Whatever your product, our experts can support you in the development of a specific analytical test plan and in method validation. We can also provide revisions to labels and normative advice, and have a dedicated staff available to provide consultancy on specific topics.
As the provision of safety and quality services and environmentally friendly solutions is one of Mérieux NutriSciences’ founding values, we have a specific department dedicated to the study of these issues, comprising experts who participate in international committees on environmental sustainability. Our commitment in this area covers two main aspects:
- Biodegradability and compostability: These are important factors in reducing and removing organic contaminants from the environment. The evaluation of biodegradability is an essential parameter for environmental risk assessments.
- The EU Ecolabel on detergents: This is a voluntary label promoting environmental excellence that is recognized throughout Europe. Only products and services with a reduced environmental impact may be awarded this label.
Mérieux NutriSciences has a dedicated staff of qualified experts able to support customers in the following areas:
- Specific technical advice on a range of topics: consumer goods regulations (food contact materials), the EU Ecolabel for detergents, REACH, and biodegradability and compostability;
- Development of a testing plan to evaluate the performance, quality, and safety of your products;
- Evaluation of the substantiation of claims and compliance of labeling with current legislation.
Our mission is to serve as a partner to increase the added value of your products and to assist in the evaluation of safety and quality aspects, thus avoiding recalls and damage to your brand image and reputation.
