The findings underscore the growing prevalence of <strong><em>E. coli<\/em> STEC<\/strong> and <strong><em>Listeria monocytogenes<\/em> infections<\/strong>, among other zoonotic diseases.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-key-highlights-from-the-2023-zoonoses-report\">Key Highlights from the 2023 Zoonoses Report<\/h2>\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-prevalence-of-zoonotic-diseases\"><strong>Prevalence of Zoonotic Diseases<\/strong>:<\/h3>\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Campylobacteriosis<\/strong> and <strong>salmonellosis<\/strong> were the most frequently reported zoonoses in 2023, with both seeing an increase in case numbers compared to 2022.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No significant changes in the incidence trends of these diseases were observed between 2019 and 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\">Competent authorities found samples for <em>Campylobacter<\/em> quantification from broiler carcasses more frequently positive compared to results from self-monitoring efforts<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-salmonella-enteritidis\"><strong><em>Salmonella Enteritidis<\/em><\/strong>:<\/h3>\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This remains the leading cause of salmonellosis, with <strong>eggs and egg products<\/strong> identified as the primary sources of contamination.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Salmonella<\/em> accounted for the highest number of cases among all pathogen-matrix combinations and the second-highest number of hospitalizations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-e-coli-stec-or-shigatoxin-producing-escherichia-coli-infections\"><strong><em>E. coli<\/em> STEC (or Shigatoxin-producing <em>Escherichia coli<\/em>) Infections<\/strong>:<\/h3>\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ranked as the third most reported zoonotic pathogen in humans, following <em>Campylobacter<\/em> and <em>Salmonella<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A steady increase in STEC infections was observed from 2019 to 2023, primarily linked to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.merieuxnutrisciences.com\/food\/food-categories\/dairy\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"12689\">dairy products<\/a> (non-cheese)<\/strong>, cheese, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.merieuxnutrisciences.com\/food\/food-categories\/meat-and-meat-products\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"35859\">beef products<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-listeria-monocytogenes-a-growing-concern\"><strong><em>Listeria monocytogenes<\/em> &#8211;
