Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP)

Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP)

What is the FSVP Rule?

This rule is a prerequisite program under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) that states that U.S. food importers must ensure that their foreign food suppliers are making food that provides the same level of public health protection as applicable preventive controls and produce safety regulations as their domestic counterparts.

Any U.S. company that has purchased imported food or agreed to purchase it at the time of U.S. entry is subject to the FSVP rule.

What Do I Have to Do to Comply With The FSVP Rule?

You must have at least one qualified individual establish the written procedures for your FSVP. A qualified individual is someone well-versed with the FSVP Rule. This can be accomplished through industry experience or with an appropriate education course. Once assigned, this individual must develop the FSVP.
