Stainless steel objects are suitable for food contact only when complying with overall migration limits and some specific migration limits set by Ministerial Decree dd. Mar. 21, 1973 and subsequent amendments and additions.

For this material, Mérieux NutriSciences analyzes global and specific migration of nickel, chromium and manganese: these substances damage human health and should not be transferred from containers and pots to foods. RASFF notifications provide alarming data on the migration of toxic substances contained in imported pots and pans: for this reason, careful monitoring is essential.

The laboratories perform the check of stainless steel composition which may be of different types and thus have different characteristics of resistance to corrosion or environmental aggressions.
