A polymer is a substance composed of macromolecules: although the term polymer usually refers to plastics, it actually includes a large class of both natural and synthetic compounds whose properties can be used to improve product appearance, strength and workability. Mérieux NutriSciences performs polymers analysis to optimize their use in manufacturing or verify that the material meets relevant specifications.

Polymer typing
Polymers are used in a very wide range of home and industrial products. Information relating to the material used in the product may be obtained by FT-IR spectrometry and comparing the spectrum obtained with existing databases.

Inorganic charges
Inorganic charges are added to polymers to improve their mechanical characteristics and performance, even in very significant concentrations. Mérieux NutriSciences Laboratory can check the amount and type of the inorganic charges used.

Multilayer testing
Polylaminate packaging is a solution that combines the characteristics of different materials; different polymers or matches of different materials, such as polymer/paper or polymer/aluminum. Laminated materials are thus complex structures, in which each component has a specific use. The study of the section of laminated materials can be studied by electronic microscopy techniques, thus measuring the thickness of each layer and obtaining the information relating to its composition.
