Paris, January 22nd, 2019 – Mérieux NutriSciences, leader in Food Safety & Quality, becomes a minority shareholder in Crystalchain, a French blockchain solution provider to address traceability challenges in the food industry.
Traceability is an increasingly complex topic for the food industry. The length of the supply chain, the globalization of raw materials sourcing, the specific regulations from one country to another as well as the growing expectations from consumers regarding their food provenance constitute a set of factors making traceability always more difficult but key for the food industry.
Crystalchain is a French company making end-to-end product tracing possible by securing data with the blockchain. The blockchain technology is one of the answers to traceability challenges on a global level, no matter the complexity of the chain.
As part of this partnership, Mérieux NutriSciences acquires 14% of the shares of Crystalchain. Both companies will work together, especially sharing market and technical knowledge, in order to help customers better deal with traceability challenges. This collaboration aims to address food players’ main concerns: origin of products, responsiveness in case of alerts, product authenticity, suppliers’ management, among others.
“The market expertise of Mérieux NutriSciences will reinforce our solutions and allow us to get closer to food industry players to better answer their expectations in terms of traceability” said Sylvain Cariou, CEO and co-founder of Crystalchain, “The presence of Mérieux NutriSciences in 22 countries is also a great advantage as it will bring us an industry-specific and regulatory knowledge” he added.
“Our collaboration with Crystalchain is above all a great opportunity to offer our clients a technical expertise in the blockchain domain. We know traceability has become a huge concern in the food sector, especially after some global crises and recalls and our mission is to help our customers protect Public Health by providing Food Safety and Quality solutions. The blockchain technology is now part of the solutions we can offer for the benefit of our clients” said Agnès Houpiart-Dupré, Vice-President Digital Solutions at Mérieux NutriSciences.
Investing in the company, Mérieux NutriSciences will thus take part in Crystalchain’s Board of Directors.
