Products marketed to consumers must be proven to be safe; no compromises are allowed when there could be a risk to consumer health.
From food contact materials (FCM) to textiles, from detergents to air fresheners, any chemicals used as ingredients in products must be controlled in order to protect human health and avoid any harmful impact on the environment.
Product performance can positively or negatively affect customer satisfaction; products must be fit for use, claims used in advertising must correspond to product characteristics, and a market leader must deliver a high level of performance to avoid disappointing consumers.
Performance evaluation is one of the Mérieux NutriSciences laboratories’ main strengths. Years of experience and our sophisticated range of instruments, some of which have been purpose-designed, enable us to support our customers in extensive and exhaustive performance evaluation tests for a wide range of products, including plastics, detergents, absorbing aids, accelerated aging, and exposure to light and weathering.
Quality control is indispensable to monitor whether a product or service meets specified requirements. A quality assurance system is intended to increase customer confidence and a company's credibility, to improve work processes and efficiency, and to enable a company to better compete with its rivals. We offer a comprehensive approach that covers chemistry (link), microbiology, physical properties and performance, so as to accurately determine product properties and the suitability of technical specifications of goods, and for claim substantiation purposes.
Our test plans can be adapted to suit the type of product and its intended use. Our experienced R&D department (link) works with manufacturers and retailers to develop and validate analytical methods specifically for your needs.
Most products, including detergents, waste and shopping bags made of compostable and biodegradable film, textiles, plastic materials, inks, paints and varnishes, can undergo chemical and physical changes during storage and use. The rate at which these changes occur depends on the nature of the active constituents, the type of formulation, the packaging and, of course, the storage/use conditions (temperature, light and humidity). The product remains fit for use as long as these changes have no adverse effects on application and/or consumer safety. Stability data should be generated with the product stored in the proposed commercial packaging, under accelerated conditions and/or via long-term testing at room temperature or in ambient warehouse conditions.
Mérieux NutriSciences provides a wide range of aging conditions, including climatic and xenon chambers for artificial exposure to light and weathering, and appropriate methods to test performance changes for an extensive range of goods.
Research and development plays a key role in the industrial innovation process, which may consist of creating innovative products, replacing an existing product, or restyling an old product (e.g. packaging it in a different way). In all cases, the performance, safety and durability of the product must be evaluated in order to ensure the success of the project.
