Accelerated aging is an artificial procedure for establishing the lifespan or shelf life of a product, using aggravated conditions of heat, humidity, sunlight, etc. to speed up the normal aging process.

In such studies, materials may be exposed to rapid but controlled changes in temperature, humidity, pressure, stresses, etc., simulating the effects of aging in order to obtain the necessary data within a reduced time.

For example, to simulate weathering, the test sample is exposed to xenon light in a xenon chamber, with alternating dry and water-spray cycles.

Mérieux NutriSciences offers a wide range of aging conditions, based on controlled lighting, temperature and/or humidity, as well as physical stress, such as:

  • Repeated washing (with washing or dishwashing machines, both for laboratory and domestic use)
  • Abrasion, using Martindale or Veslic methods
  • Repeated torsion/flexion cycles with a specific tool
  • Repeated traction cycles with CRE dynamometers.

We also offer appropriate methods to evaluate chemical, physical and colorimetric changes for an extensive range of goods.
