Mérieux NutriSciences strengthens its leading position in the Chilean aquaculture market with the acquisition of Viamed Technical Laboratory SpA.

Chicago, IL, April 4th, 2023 – Mérieux NutriSciences, a world leader in food safety, quality and sustainability announced today the acquisition of Viamed Technical Laboratory SpA., a laboratory specialized in the detection of drug residues and chemical contaminants in food for human and animal consumption, and market leaders in aquaculture.

Established in 2003 and with a staff complement of 25 highly qualified professionals, Viamed (located in Ñuñoa, Santiago and with operations in Chiloé Island) has over 19 years’ experience in the analysis of residues and contaminants in salmon, bovine, ovine, porcine, poultry, oils and other food products, as well as microbiology and microscopy services, making it one of the leading service providers to the aquaculture and livestock industries in Chile.

Viamed uses analytical methodologies and technologies in accordance with the requirements of the national and international market. It has been characterized by its permanent search for growth, as well as the incorporation of professionals in the scientific-analytical area, which allows it to provide a wide and integral service to the food market.

With the acquisition of Viamed, Mérieux NutriSciences Chile (formerly Labser SpA.) continues to expand its presence and full-solutions-offering to the salmon industry in Chile, in full alignment with the Company’s objective to consolidate its position as the market leader in aquaculture, and to serve its customers throughout the value chain.
