Indoor air may contain contaminants released from products such as paints, varnishes, flooring, carpets, furniture, detergents, air fresheners and electric devices. All of these products can be sources of indoor air pollutants such as formaldehyde and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Product emissions tests are performed in ISO 16000-9 test chambers. Parameters such as temperature, humidity, loading (area of product per room volume) and ventilation are determined as indicated in the ISO standards. The stipulations of the ISO 16000-11 standard are applied for the sampling procedures, transport conditions, storage conditions and substrates potentially affecting emissions of volatile organic compounds. For individual products, a test specimen of each type is prepared. Mérieux NutriSciences performs these analyses in a dedicated ISO 17025 (ACCREDIA) accredited laboratory:

  • ISO 16000-6:2011 Determination of volatile organic compounds in indoor and test chamber air 
  • ISO 16000-3:2011 Determination of formaldehyde and other carbonyl compounds in indoor air and test chamber air
