Among the suitability tests of a packaging, studies on materials that compose it are of utmost importance because they may highlight the characterizing elements, measure the different layers and verify its morphology, in the case of poly-laminates. This analysis can also highlight possible anomalies in the layer or in the packaging structure.

Mérieux NutriSciences employs the latest generation microscopy techniques that are able to give important information during packaging design process in response to the structural suitability issues that are difficult to detect.

Through the SEM microscope (Scanning Electron Microscope) with integrated microanalysis, high resolution and the most updated software applications are combined. They study the sections of poly-laminates packaging from a morphological point of view, measure the thickness of each layer, offer information on the nature and composition of each material.

The microscope-integrated EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy) microanalysis can identify the elements that characterize each layer, trace the compositional profile of the whole section, study the compositional trends, check the homogeneity of the layers and possibly identify changes in the interface.
