Mérieux NutriSciences - Food contact material

All materials that come into contact with food must be carefully controlled to prevent the risk of contamination and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.

To check these requirements, the legislation provides for specific measures: all materials and items intended to come into contact with foodstuffs (MOCA) are subject to EC Regulation 2023/2006 (on Good Manufacturing Practices) and the general provisions of EC Regulation 1935/2004. The basic principle is that the materials manufactured in compliance with good manufacturing practices are sufficiently inert to exclude the transfer of substances to foodstuffs in quantities likely to:

  • Endanger human health
  • Imply an unacceptable change in food composition
  • Impair their organoleptic characteristics

Compliance results affect the whole supply chain, not just the user who needs to know how to choose the best material for his food, but manufacturers also have the task to offer safe materials manufactured with raw materials free from contamination as much as possible.

Mérieux NutriSciences assists companies in choosing the correct analytical solution to raw materials, intermediates for production and finished products to ensure that they have the mandatory food application requirements with global and specific migration tests according to the type of material.

Tests are performed in accordance with legal methods by recognized Standards (EN, DIN, LMBG, FDA, ISO etc.) or by methods that are specially developed and validated internally.

The mission is to provide solutions to meet the business needs that affect the compliance of materials in contact with foods with local regulations and support companies that have to face a constantly changing legislation and an often complex production activity.
