The sampling and analysis of agricultural land allows the definition of the agronomic characteristics and the determination of its ability to receive sludge from sewage treatment plants or other raw material sources that can be re-used for agronomic purposes.

Mérieux NutriSciences performs the following analyses of agricultural land

  • Assessment of fertility as for pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, aluminum H +, ion exchange capacity, organic matter and aluminum.
  • Micro and macro nutrients.
  • Identification of agronomic and/or toxicological characteristics.
  • Evaluation of soil ability to receive sludge or other residues, as set out in current environmental guidelines.

Sludge and residues for fertilization

In agriculture, sludge from biological treatment plants and agricultural food residues can be used as fertilizer. Sludge is a semisolid material stemming from industrial or domestic wastewater treatment plants. Sludge from waste treatment plants is increasingly being used as a fertilizer in agriculture or as an alternative energy source with low carbon levels. Mérieux NutriSciences provides analytical testing services to characterize sludge and identify its suitable re-use in agriculture or in biogas production. Moreover, sludge characteristics are an index of the efficiency of water purification processes.

Mérieux NutriSciences defines a fertilization plan based on the characteristics of the analyzed agricultural soils and their analytical results obtained in relation to the specific culture of the customer.
