MXNS is the short form of the name of the company Mérieux NutriSciences, a food testing lab.

Mérieux NutriSciences’ name reflects the evolution of our company and our belonging to the Institut Mérieux since 1999. As for Mérieux NutriSciences, Institut Mérieux and all its entities are dedicated to improving public health and our name reinforces the legacy of the Mérieux family.

From the beginning, our activities aim to improve public health especially by delivering food safety testing services. Thus, we wanted our scientific expertise to be brought out in our name by “NutriSciences”. We have extended our service offering but food testing and nutrition remain our biggest activities around the globe.

John H. Silliker founded and gave his name to the American food testing company Silliker Inc. in 1967.

Silliker Inc. was then acquired by Institut Mérieux in the 1990’s and resulted in Mérieux NutriSciences.

Today, Silliker is still the legal name of some subsidiaries around the globe, but all of them use Mérieux NutriSciences as a brand name.

Institut Mérieux is Mérieux NutriSciences’ mother company (majority shareholder with 70% of shares) and acts as a holding company.

Institut Mérieux is committing its experience in industrial biology to serve medicine and public health across the globe.

Institut Mérieux has a comprehensive approach from prevention to therapy through diagnosis.  Its main three companies -bioMérieuxTransgène, Mérieux NutriSciences - have made major advances in the fight against infectious diseases and cancers, as well as in the field of nutrition and food safety. Created in 1897, Institut Mérieux employs more than 17,000 people worldwide, has an international presence in 150 countries and a direct presence in more than 40 countries.

Food safety consists in handling, preparing and storing food in a way to prevent foodborne illnesses.

In our business, microbiology testing refers to the use of specific methods allowing detecting, isolating and identifying microorganisms in food.

Mérieux NutriSciences can identify common indicator organisms and foodborne pathogens, analyze raw ingredient samples and finished products to guarantee food safety and food quality.
